Oslo's terrace gardening season runs roughly from April to October, with distinct tasks each season. Our maintenance plans cover all of this — or use this guide for DIY care.
Spring (March–May)
Key months: March planning, April prep, May planting
- Inspect containers for frost damage and cracked glaze
- Refresh top 5 cm of soil and add slow-release fertiliser
- Prune dead stems from perennials and ornamental grasses
- Plant cold-hardy species after last frost (mid-May in Oslo)
- Test and restart drip irrigation systems
Book your spring maintenance visit early — April slots fill by February. Essential plan: 1 200 NOK/month.

- Apply liquid seaweed feed every 2–3 weeks
Autumn (September–October)
Prepare for first frost, typically late September
- Reduce watering as temperatures drop
- Plant spring bulbs (tulips, crocuses) in containers
- Apply autumn mulch to protect root zones

Winter (November–February)
Dormant season — focus on structure and planning
- Evergreens and hellebores provide winter visual interest
- Do not water frozen containers — wait for thaw
- Plan next season's design changes during quiet months
